This is a tiny Chateauneuf du Pape estate of just under five acres, but last year Goumarre turned out a 2008 as good as I had hoped it would be. Displaying plenty of Provencal typicity with its notes of roasted herbs, black cherries, lavender, and pepper, this dark ruby wine exhibits expansive sweet raspberry and cherry fruit, medium body, and nice depth and overall balance. Silky tannins and low acidity suggest drinking it over the next 5-6 years.
The owner and winemaker of Domaine Galevan is another strong-minded and impressively talented woman, Coralie Goumarre. Her 2009s are even better than what she did in 2007. As I have written before, two of her best buys are her Cotes du Rhones.
