Henri Bonneau opened this wine simply to prove that with time, even the most unappealing vintages (e.g., 1991, 993) can do surprising things in the bottle. From a dreadful Chateauneuf du Pape vintage, this wine, from Bonneau's personal stock, exhibited an exotic, herb, garrigue, fruitcake, smoky-scented nose, thick, juicy, fat, ripe flavors, noticeable acidity, and a whoppingly long finish. This fully mature wine exhibits far more ripe fruit than one would expect. Anticipated maturity: now-2002. Last tasted 6/95.
