The 2010 Belondrade y Lurton has a simple pear and bruised apple-scented bouquet that needs more intensity, though that should evolve with time. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity, offering subtle notes of tinned apricot, orange peel and lime. The finish is harmonious and succinct, although it is difficult to discern a sense of personality at this moment, especially considering the price.
Didier Belondrade owns vines in the sub-zone of La Seca, reputed for some of Rueda’s finest soils and climate. There are 25 hectares of vineyard planted with Verdejo, the youngest vines used for Apolonia and the oldest for Belondrade. The wines undergo 100% barrel fermentation and aged for 12 months on their lees.
