Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1966 La Romanée Grand Cru came from the chateau and had been re-corked in 1999. What an exquisite specimen. It is mature in colour, quite similar to the 1962 La Romanée. The nose gently unfolds, taking you on an aromatic trip to the heart of the vineyard, mulberry mixed with dried blood, a subtle ferrous scent. Pausing for a moment I am taken straight back to that ethereal La Tache '66. Brother and sister? The palate does not disappoint: exquisite balance, filigree tannin, weightless and ethereal, the pure essence of Pinot Noir. Each sip came with a silent sigh... Tasted June 2015.
