The 2016 Fiano di Avellino Feudi Studi Campo Aperto comes off as more neutral compared to the exuberant 2015 vintage before it. Perhaps this wine requires extra time to open. Fruit is sourced near Feudi di San Gregorio's famed Piano di Montevergine vineyard (planted to Aglianico) at high altitudes, some 600 meters above sea level. The soils see a mix of limestone sand and clay. This wine is fermented in stainless steel at temperatures that are not too cold. The idea is to capture some of those fermentation aromas and to make a wine with soul. You do get white peach and pear, but the aromatic threshold is lower in the case of this wine. It does show bright acidity and a snappy, lean to mid-weight mouthfeel.
