The 1999 Barolo Riva is forthrightly modern in its personality, a dark garnet with much chocolate and coconut from the small barrels along with the classic cherry, red currant and rose petal aromas. The palate shows an important extraction in its packed tannins and dense texture, but the velvet of the tannins, the fresh licorice and mint of the flavors give the necessary balance to the power and depth.
