The 2004 Chianti Classico (90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo) is an attractive effort. Medium in body, it offers perfumed notes of black cherries and spices with excellent length and fine tannins. It is an accessible, tasty Chianti to drink now and over the next three to four years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2011.
Badia a Coltibuono has been owned by the Stucchi Prinetti family since the mid-19th century. The original estate and its namesake abbey are located in one of the most picturesque corners of Gaiole, in the heart of Chianti Classico. More recently the family has built a state of the art winemaking facility in Monti. The estate produces a wide range of Sangiovese-based wines, all from organically grown fruit. There is also a negociant range marketed under the brand name Coltibuono.
