Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. Both Robert Parker and I have tasted the 1971 Latour-à-Pomerol before and never been overly impressed. My own prior experience came courtesy of a magnum directly from Moueix's reserves, so nothing quite prepared me for this startling bottle that had Edouard Moueix grinning from ear to ear. What a lovely wine! It is very refined on the tertiary nose: sandalwood, roasted herbs and a hint of tobacco interlacing the fruit. It has retained impressive vigor considering its age. The palate is fresh and lithe in the mouth, interwoven with a fine thread of acidity. It is not a complex wine but the elegance and purity, its sheer effortless wins you over. I doubt I will ever find another bottle as good as this, so I count myself fortunate. Tasted December 2015.
