The 2008 Barbaresco Ronchi is a pretty, mid-weight Barbaresco laced with sweet red cherries, licorice, tobacco and grilled herbs. Deceptively medium-bodied at first, the wine fleshes out beautifully on the palate while maintaining a firm sense of structure. The energetic, tightly wound finish suggests the wine will benefit from another few years in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028. This is a terrific set of wines from Angelo Rocca. The Barbareschi in particular have become much more refined over the last few vintages than was the case previously.
