Rich and seductive, with waves of crushed plum, steeped red currant and black cherry reduction gliding through in unison, while light garrigue and black tea notes curl around and through the finish. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre, the 2018 Gigondas Confidentiel is peppery and herbal up front, with bright cherry and blood orange flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it starts off silky, then builds in tannic intensity into a dry, chewy finish.

Floral (roses) and tea-like notes grace the nose of the 2017 Gigondas Confidentiel. It's full-bodied, firm and structured yet loaded with cherry fruit. This might need a bit of cellaring after release next year, but the raw materials tasted from vat look exceptional. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Fresh, with bright raspberry and cherry preserve notes streaming through, laced with subtle anise, apple wood and fruitcake notes. While last year I had a preference for the 2016 Gigondas Confidentiel over the Terre des A?nés, this year I felt they were pretty equivalent in quality. The full-bodied Confidentiel is more open-knit in texture, velvety versus silken, with bright raspberry and cherry fruit and hints of chocolate and leather on the long finish. You won't go wrong with either (or some of each).
