A big step up, the 2004 Gigondas Confidentiel is a smoking effort that’s comprised of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre. Totally destemmed and aged all in tank, it boasts serious dark berry fruit, herbed game, earth and garrigue as well as a medium to full-bodied, focused, yet rich and classically styled feel. An outstanding wine for sure, it should continue to evolve gracefully for another 5-7 years, but certainly, it’s rock solid now.
