Mainly barrel-fermented Roussanne, with the balance typically Grenache Blanc, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Clos de Beauvenir remains a standard-bearer among white Chateauneufs. The vanilla and toasted-nut shadings are subtle, just adding a touch of complexity to the ripe pear and tangerine aromas on the nose, while the full-bodied palate remains vibrant and zesty despite its voluminous feel in the mouth. Long and silky on the finish, this is not only powerful and flavorful, but elegant. It should drink well for a decade or so.
