Aging surprisingly well, as I always think this cuvee is best in its first couple of years, the 2004 Chateauneuf Du Pape Clos De Beauvenir offers a light-to medium-gold color as well as a rich, full bouquet of buttered peaches, white currants, toast, vanilla creme and ample minerality. A blend of 48% Roussanne, 43% Clairette and the balance Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc, aged in 60% new French oak barrels, this medium to full-bodied white has bright acidity, solid mid-palate depth and a big finish. It’s a classy effort that will go perfectly with heartier fare. I’d drink bottles over the coming couple of years, yet I suspect it will continue to evolve gracefully past that.
