The luxury cuvee of white Chateauneuf du Pape, the 1999 Clos de Beauvenir, is a blend of 62% Roussanne, 29% Clairette, 4% Bourboulenc, and 5% Grenache Blanc. Sadly, there are only 500 cases of this barrel-fermented offering. It possesses an exciting nose of honeyed citrus mixed with white flowers, honeysuckle, and a hint of wax. Dense, full-bodied, nicely-textured, fresh, and lively, it is a substantial dry white that should age well for 5-6 years. This white had its malolactic fermentation blocked, which, based on my experience tasting 15-20 year old white Chateauneuf du Papes, means they tend to show extremely well young, fall into a dull, dumb, oxidized stage, only to re-emerge after a decade.
