It's always interesting to taste two vintages of the same wine side by side. 2020 was a heterogeneous year with ups and downs, as it was challenging, and the wines reflect the work in the vineyard in a difficult time during the pandemic. The 2020 Cirerets, 60% Garnacha and 40% Cari?ena, shows clean aromas and flavors, definition and elegance within the powerful, ripe and concentrated style from Priorat and the winery. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.

The 2019 Cirerets is powerful at 15.5% alcohol, a concentrated, ripe and hedonistic blend of Cari?ena and Garnacha from certified organic vines. It has generous spicy oak, which seems to be a constant in the reds here. This is more concentrated and powerful than the 2020 I tasted next to it. This is now a Vi de Vila de la Vilella Alta, a village wine. 17,000 bottles were filled in June 2021.

I just love the elegance and harmony of the 2018 Cirerets despite the 16% alcohol marked on the label. It's a village wine from La Vilella Alta produced with 60% old Cari?ena planted in 1962 (La Veana) and 40% young Garnacha planted in 2002 (Cirerets). It is powerful yet elegant and harmonious with a soft texture, sleek tannins and very pure and penetrating flavors. Really delicious and hedonistic. This is certified organic and biodynamic since 2016. 16,000 bottles. It was bottled in July 2020 and is already very harmonious and has the stuffing and balance for a good development in bottle.

The 2017 Cirerets is darker, more powerful and a tad more rustic than the amazing 2018, in comparison of which it suffers a bit. The Garnacha and Cari?ena grapes fermented separately in concrete vats, and the wines aged separately for some 16 months, the Garnacha in used barrels and the Cari?ena in new ones. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2019.

The aromatic, expressive and open 2016 Cirerets showed red fruit freshness, very fine and elegant tannins and a lively palate with pungent flavors, lifted by a strong sensation of freshness. This is an impressive blend of 60% Cari?ena and 40% Garnacha that has ripeness but no excess, coming through as very complete and balanced, with some oak-related flavors still to be resolved after its 16 months in oak. Clean, modern and very moreish. 8,248 bottles were filled in June 2018.
