The 2018 Reserva is among my favorite wines from this tasting; it's more fluid, fresher and with contained ripeness and integrated oak. Despite everything, the wine is 14.3% alcohol, but the mouthfeel and overall sensation is different. It was produced with 77% Tempranillo, 12% Mazuelo (Cari?ena) and 10% Garnacha that matured in barrel for 22 months.

The 2017 Reserva is surprisingly clean and fresh for such a year; perhaps it is the beginning of a change, as the 2018 also showed a similar profile, different from the wines from previous vintages. It's peppery and spicy, with some toasty notes. It's 70% Tempranillo, 17% Garnacha and 13% Mazuelo that matured in 225- and 500-liter (5%) French oak barrels for 23 months.

An elegant and firmly structured red, marked by textbook Rioja aromas and flavors of vanilla-tinged cherry, tea and cedar. This tightens up on the earthy finish, remaining persistent. Black currant, dried fig, dark chocolate and clove notes mingle in this thick red. Muscular tannins and balsamic acidity give way to a candied licorice finish. A bit blunt, but expressive.
