Deep garnet in color with a touch of brick the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a nose of dried mulberries, warm red currants and kirsch over touches of dried Mediterranean herbs, leather and hung meat. Ripe, rich and full bodied, the generosity of maturing fruit is well supported by crisp acidity and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins. It has a long layered finish. Drinking now, it should continue to cellar to 2018+.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
