Deep garnet colored with a hint of brick in the rim, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals aromas of ripe creme de cassis, bay leaf, olives and soy with hints of leather and tobacco. Medium to full bodied with a good concentration of ripe berry and evolved savory flavors, it has medium to firm grainy tannins, a good acid line and a long layered finish. Drink this one now through 2016.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
