From the first time tasted, the 1984 was a success for this difficult vintage. Sufficiently ruby in color with a moderately intense, spicy, tarry, oaky, cassis-scented bouquet, this medium-bodied wine has decent concentration, soft-yet-firm tannins, and tart acidity. It may be just beginning to lose its fruit. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 4/94.
