Proprietor Gerard Batllevell’s top offering is the 200-case cuvee of 2003 Les Eres Vinya Velles, a blend of 95-year-old Carignan (30%), 85-year-old Grenache (55%), and 25-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). Fermented in barrel and aged 16 months in primarily new French oak, it is a still young, primary, backward wine revealing an inky/purple color as well as plenty of sweet black raspberry fruit intermixed with creme de cassis, smoke, graphite, and crushed rocks. Boasting superb intensity, moderately high tannin, and a medium to full-bodied, persistent palate, it should drink well for 10-12 years or longer.
