Possibly a red from another era with more predominance of the oak, the 2012 Verán is a blend of 50% Manto Negro, 25% Syrah and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats and matured in oak barrels, 70% of them new, for 15 months. It's a powerful, 15%-alcohol red blend with a high influence from the élevage, which for me tends to remove the grape and place character and make many wines look alike. It's holding quite well, but it will always remain an oaky red. 70,000 bottles produced.
