The 1995 Zinfandel Westside is a very good to excellent wine. Soft, with a moderately deep ruby color, medium body, an attractive, easy-going, low-acid style, and round, tasty, attractive, berry-like flavors, this wine usually super-rich, is forward and commercial in its open-knit, immediately drinkable style. Moreover, it needs to be drunk up over the next several years because of its lack of extract and length. One of my favorite Zinfandel producers, Peachy Canyon has turned in a bevy of wines that are good, but well-below the high quality of previous vintages. However, the wines, with their angular personalities, are typical for the vintage, with less glycerin and extraction, yet more acidity. In spite of the high alcohol, the wines are not comparable to the intense richness of fruit found in such vintages as 1994, 1993, 1992, 1991, and 1990.
