One of Ferraton’s top cuvees, the 2001 Hermitage Les Miaux was difficult to evaluate. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color, medium to full body, and a tight, austere style revealing notes of smoke, cassis, plums, and figs. Although tough-textured, angular, and tannic, it is of reasonably high quality. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015.
Ferraton’s wines are made under the auspices of Michel Chapoutier and his talented oenologist, Alberic Mazoyer. Two levels of quality are offered, the negociant cuvees (made from purchased wines and/or grapes) and the single vineyard estate offerings.
