The limited production 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Vieilles Vignes is strong for the vintage with medium to full body, and beautiful sweet crushed raspberry and black cherry notes intermixed with some flowers, spice, and toast. The wine is medium to full-bodied, pure, beautifully balanced, a knock-out wine that could pass for a grand cru red Burgundy in a blind tasting. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
