Composed of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, and aged in small oak casks, of which one-third were new, the 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve de Vieilles Vignes is reminiscent of the luxury Cuvee des Generations from Chateau de la Gardine. It possesses the potential to merit an outstanding rating after some bottle age. It exhibits an impressive dark ruby/purple color, and attractive vanillin/pain grille scents to go along with plenty of ripe black cherry and curranty fruit. There is an underlying mineral character to this full-bodied, stylish, oaky wine. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2007.This modest estate of just under 30 acres produces about 2200 cases of estate-bottled Chateauneuf du Pape with the balance sold off to leading negociants.Importer: T.
