The renowned 1999 Shiraz Old Bastard comes from 110-year old Shiraz vines. Approximately 200 six-packs of this cuvee make it to America (total production is 300 six-packs). The wine offers up fascinating aromas of violets, blackberry liqueur, melted licorice, and creosote. Expansive, with great fruit, immense body, plenty of sweet oak, and a long, lusty, super-concentrated finish, it should drink well for 15+ years. I would not be surprised to see it close down in its youth. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018+.
