One of the top wines of the vintage, possessing an opaque ruby/purple color, a sensational bouquet of licorice, Provencal herbs, vanillin, black cherries, and black raspberries, Graillot's 1989 La Guiraude could easily be confused with one of the better examples of Hermitage. In the mouth this multidimensional wine is impressively concentrated and displays more oak than the regular cuvee. Full-bodied, with super length and riveting depth, it is a superb expression of the Syrah grape. A winemaking tour de force! Bravo! Anticipated maturity: now-2004. Last tasted 12/95.
