Salcheto’s 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano feels flat and heavy footed on first impression with bold, but one-dimensional fruit tones of black cherry, plum and fresh figs. Background dustings of crushed mineral and powdered chocolate also appear and give the wine a broad, rich personality. The summer heat has put an emphasis on power not nuance.
