The opaque purple-colored 2000 Venus la Universal is a blend of 50% Carignan (80-100 year old vines) and 50% Syrah aged in used Burgundy barrels, and bottled without fining or filtration. Aromas of kirsch, saddle leather, red as well as black fruits, and a distinctive earthy note are followed by an elegant, medium-bodied wine revealing dusty tannin, and pure, ripe, concentrated flavors.
