The dark garnet 1998 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna delle Raunate offers a sweet, ripe nose of wild cherries, caramel and licorice. The flavors are reasonably concentrated but the texture somewhat rough and the finish somewhat dry. Drink: 2005-2008. A caveat – the tannins do not induce excessive optimism. Consistent inconsistency characterize the wines of this property to the north of Montalcino. This year’s tasting is no exception.
