I have never tasted better grands crus from Mortet than his 1990 Clos Vougeot and 1990 Chambertin. The Clos Vougeot is an opulent, intensely rich wine, with great ripeness and extraction of fruit, superb length, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a heady, lusty, long finish. It should drink well for at least a decade.
The 1990 offerings reviewed are the finest wines I have yet tasted from Mortet. His style of winemaking produces fragrant, precocious tasting wines that are meant to be consumed during their first decade. All of these wines are forward, round, and generous.
