Tasting lighter than it did last year, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape is a medium-bodied effort lacking punch, substance, and length. It offers sweet black currant fruit intertwined with spice and floral notes. Easy going and consumer-friendly, but essentially superficial, it should be drunk over the next 6-7 years.
