Jean-Luc Colombo was unhappy with the Syrah in 1997, thus the 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape's final blend is 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre, and 15% Syrah. The wine is already evolved and delicious. The color is a healthy dark ruby, and the wine reveals sweet black fruits in the nose, along with prune and blackberry scents. Round, with rich fruit, good spice, and medium body, its low acidity suggests it should be drunk over the next 5-6 years. This wine is being made by the well-known Cornas oenologist, Jean-Luc Colombo. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; tel. (908) 654-6173
