From an unheralded vintage that had hail during harvest, the 1993 Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues was showing better than it had any right to. Still showing a healthy ruby/amber color, with lots of chocolate, fig, spice and currants, it has impressive concentration, a beautiful texture and surprising length. There's certainly no upside here, but it's a mature, classy Gigondas that shows how long this cuvee can age, even in difficult vintages.
