The 1989 Cuvee des Hautes Garrigues displays more tannin than the regular cuvee, generous, smoky, vanillin, toasty, cassis-scented aromas, enticingly rich black/purple color, and huge flavors of coffee, chocolate, herbs, and super ripe black fruits. In the mouth there is the same opulence, but the use of new barrels has resulted in a more muscular, structured, tannic wine. Very impressive! Anticipated maturity: 1998-2010. Last tasted 12/95.
