A solidly made, very good wine, the 2000 exhibits notes of black cherries, black currants, dusty, earthy soil and a hint of bay leaf (or is it mint?). This medium-bodied, fruity effort is somewhat compact and limited in its ability to improve. It will probably last another decade, but there is no reason to hold on to it. Anticipated Maturity: now-2020.

From the renowned Monte Rosso Vineyard, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is a compact, foursquare effort. Typical of the vintage, it does not possess much depth or texture, but what’s there is very nice – red currants, black currants, earth, licorice, and underbrush characteristics. Despite the difficulty of the vintage, this is a very good effort. It’s bigger, fuller and more-extracted than the ’99, with muscular cedar, cassis and graphite aromas and flavors. Drink 2008–2012.——W.E.(9/1/2005)—— 88
