Richter’s 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese smells of very ripe, brown-spiced Persian melon, offers an overtly sweet yet underlyingly spare palate impression featuring pear, apple, and melon, and finishes with relentless wet stone slate character and subtle spice. Like other Brauneberg wines at this address, this needs a little time to express itself fully, and it grew significantly in the glass. It will be a formidable candidate for a couple of decade’s cellaring.
