The nearly outstanding 1999 Shiraz St. Jakobi (from 25-year old vines) spent 24 months in a combination of new and old French and American barrels. Its dense purple color is followed by full-bodied, straightforward blackberry aromas intermixed with notes of pepper and charcoal. Sweet, full, ripe, and delicious, if more complexity develops, it will merit an outstanding score. It will drink well for 7-8 years.
