Fleshy and opulent, the 1998 Barolo Vigna Sarmassa is made in a voluptuous, contemporary style with full body, abundant glycerin, and copious amounts of black cherry fruit infused with licorice, espresso, and melted road tar. Very concentrated, with lots of ripe plum, verging on prune. Toasty oak and cappuccino character. Full and round. It goes on for a very long time. Still very youthful. But why what?
