Oak, minerals, and white flowers can be found in the nose of the 2001 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Maltroie. Medium-bodied, concentrated, and sporting the depth generally associated with red wines, it coats the palate with white fruit and liquid mineral flavors. It should be consumed between 2004 and 2010.
This wine is, unquestionably, one of the finest white Burgundies produced in 2001. Bravo!
To quote the ever-calm Michel Niellon, a man of few words, "There were no problems in 2001, I like the vintage." Having tasted his wines, I can see why.
