Very good is the compelling 1998 Barolo Sori Ginestra. A dense, full-bodied, super-extracted, complex, multilayered Barolo, it exhibits aromas and flavors of tar, camphor, black cherry liqueur, smoke, minerals, and subtle new oak. Vanilla and coconut lead the way; the aromas are dominated by oak, and the flavors follow suit, developing coffee, nougat and vanilla notes. It’s a definite oak bomb, but a soft, supple and seductive one, with a long finish and nary a hard edge. ——W.E.(4/2/2004)—— 88
