The 2008 Idus sourced from some of the estate’s older vines is made up of 45% Carinena, 18% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Syrah and Garnacha aged in a mix of first and second year 225 and 300-liter French oak for 14 months. It displays a glass-coating opaque purple color along with an enticing nose of balsam wood, tar, licorice, espresso, and assorted black fruits. Full-bodied on the palate, it has ample savory fruit but could use a bit more depth. Well-balanced and lengthy, it will continue to blossom for several more years and provide prime drinking from 2014 to 2028.
