This is the finest effort I have yet tasted of this 100% Grenache Blanc from vineyards averaging 100 years of age, planted in the pure schist of Priorat. The wine sees no wood aging, and is kept on its lees to build texture. The 2004 is a dead-ringer for a top-flight white Chateauneuf du Pape. With surprising viscosity, full body, zesty acidity, freshness, and minerality, it is a large-scaled, heady white offering notes of licorice, white currants, rose petals, and a touch of honeysuckle. It brilliantly displays what can be achieved with impeccable winemaking and old vines in a region better known for its classic reds. Drink it over the next 1-2 years although I suspect it may last longer.
