Toasty and rich but still fresh, Seresin's 2016 Chardonnay Reserve is a terrific effort. Pain grillé joins ripe peach and lemon curd on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied without being overly weighty, balancing size and refreshment in an ideal manner. Capping things off is a long, lingering finish that delivers nuances of cinnamon, clove, stone fruit and citrus. The 15% new oak is noticeable but in balance with the concentrated fruit. Drink this over the next few years.

Seresin's barrel-fermented 2015 Chardonnay Reserve saw 26% new oak, which has integrated into the wine in a beautiful way. There's the subtle nuttiness of toasted grain (and maybe just a hint of cashew) blended with rich, ripe, yet citrusy fruit flavors. It's medium to full-bodied yet seems almost weightless, gliding easily across the palate into an extended finish. One of the best Marlborough Chards I can remember tasting!

The 2014 Chardonnay Reserve opens with delicate lemon curd, grapefruit and buttered toast notes with a hint of struck match/sulfides. The palate is beautifully soft and creamy, with excellent intensity and lovely purity of citrus and stone fruit in the finish.

The 2013 Chardonnay Reserve has a savory, minerally, sulfide laced nose with touches of gunflint, chalk and wet pebbles over a core of honeyed peaches and marmite toast. Medium-bodied with a lovely creamy texture, it fills the mouth with stone fruit and yeasty flavors, finishing with great length.

The 2012 Chardonnay Reserve gives a beautiful nose of honeyed apricots, preserved ginger, cashews and cinnamon toast with a lively hint of lemon zest. Medium-bodied with a gorgeous satiny texture, it fills the palate with spicy apple and peach flavors plus nutty accents coming through on the long finish.
