Plenty of cranberry, cedar and lavender with some rose petal. It’s medium-bodied with very fresh fruit and a crunchy and beautiful finish. Fine tannins. Lively. Drink now or hold.

Lighter ruby than some for the vintage but it delivers very pretty perfumes of hibiscus, cantaloupe, and strawberry. Medium body, with firm and fine tannins and a chewy finish. Shows complexity and balance. A couple of years of bottle age will deliver even more.

The 2018 Barolo is streamlined and one-dimensional with wild cherry, lavender, tilled earth and light spice. This pretty wine delivers on the basics of the Nebbiolo grape with silky tannins and a long, polished finish.

All of these wines from Gianni Gagliardo are packaged in heavy glass bottles. In this case, 23,346 of them. The 2017 Barolo opens to medium consistency and dark ruby hues and conjures up dried cherry, tar, smoke and licorice. This is a buttoned-up Barolo with freshness and soft spice. All in all, it's a nice, classic expression of the vintage.
