Gagliardo’s 2007 Barolo shows good up front richness in its fruit, but comes across as surprisingly forward, even within the context of the vintage. Sweet dried herbs, tobacco, incense and worn-in leather are some of the notes that add nuance on the finish. This is a feminine style meant for near-term drinking, but some of the more advanced notes add welcome complexity for a wine meant to be enjoyed young. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. A warm, round and opulent red, boasting plum, cherry, leather and black tea flavors. Open, yet still firmly structured, though should develop soon. Spice accents grace the aftertaste.
