Beautifully balanced and bright, the 2013 Chianti Rufina Riserva is a spectacular wine from the talented folks at I Veroni. I love the silky and zesty approach and the high quality of its cherry, wild berry and underbrush aromas. Winemaking has been tweaked over the years to produce these very successful results. The wine is fermented on ambient yeasts in cement tanks and cone-shaped oak fermenters. It is aged in both French barrique and large Slavonian oak casks for 18 months. Some 40,000 bottles are made.

The 2009 Chianti Rufina Riserva (100% Sangiovese) is soft and round on the palate, with pretty notes of dried cherries, tobacco and spices. The aromas and flavors are already a bit forward, so the 2009 needs to be enjoyed early rather than later.
