The 2007 Chianti Rufina Riserva is a fascinating wine that shows the influences that neighboring Chianti Classico had on winemaking in Chianti Rufina during these years. This vintage is the most "international" of the wines tasted in this mini vertical. You get a good sense of how the winemaking style evolved after this point. The Riserva is of course 100% Sangiovese although vineyard replanting that started in 1996 brought a new clone of the variety in full regime. In 2007, new oak (tonneaux) was used and I Veroni has now embraced neutral oak. With bold fruit and and dark cherry, the wine hides some of the rusticity and wildness that is so prized in Chianti Rufina today.
