The 2022 LZ is primary, fruit-driven, young and fresh, bottled unoaked with moderate ripeness and alcohol. It's juicy and tender, with fine tannins, very nice balance and chalky minerality, transcending the concept of a young unoaked wine. 64,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

The young and unoaked 2021 LZ from Rioja comes from a year with low yields in Lanciego and wines with lots of color and high acidity. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts, where it matured for six to seven months before bottling. This is their Marcel Lapierre Morgon wannabe, juicy, fleshy, super drinkable, with a velvety texture. 65,017 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2022.

The 2020 LZ comes from an early harvest after a warm year not without challenges (mildew). The Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes come from their own organically farmed vineyards and fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts for 15 days; the wine matured in concrete for six to seven months before bottling. It's very primary and has notes of licorice and a juicy texture. Pablo Eguzkiza was telling me he likes 2020 better than 2019. The wine shows very good balance and fine, round tannins. 72,2020 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021.

The 2019 LZ had already been bottled in May 2020. It was not an easy vintage in Rioja, where they saw drought, bad fruit setting and minor damage from frost and hail, all of which caused a reduction in yields. But the end of the season was dry, the grapes were healthy, and based on what I could see in this young red, the wines are moderately ripe and quite good. This comes from their own organically grown and head-pruned vineyards at 500 to 700 meters in altitude on limestone-rich slopes. It fermented in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts and was kept in concrete for six to seven months. It's pure fruit, like biting into a bunch of ripe grapes, juicy and refreshing. 71,198 bottles produced.

We also jumped to the 2018 LZ, a juicy and insultingly young Rioja, with bright aromas. It's fruit-driven but not banal and has depth and complexity and round, soft tannins, without any make-up, a very pure, honest everyday wine. It develops some meaty notes over time, and it's more nuanced than the majority of young wines. 80,000 bottles produced.
