The herb and beet-laced nose of Coal Pit's 2018 Tiwha Pinot Noir accurately reflects the Gibbston Valley's generally cool climate and the presence of older clones, like 10/5, 5 and 6. But the 2018 vintage was a warm one, so those herbal notes are backed by ripe cherries and red plums, a supple, succulent feel on the medium-bodied palate and a long, silky finish. It's nicely balanced for near-term consumption, but it should drink well for at least 4-5 years.
